The following rules have been established for walking dogs at the Humane Society of Sedona. These rules are necessary to maintain the health of the dogs and the goodwill of the community.

• Check in at the front desk.
• Shelter personnel will bring out the dogs to be walked, unless prior arrangements are made. All dogs have adoption sweaters to wear to advertise their availability.
• Walk one dog at a time.
• All dogs must remain on a leash as there is a leash law in the City of Sedona.
• Prior to starting your walk, please take the dog up to the exercise area and allow them to "poop and piddle". Please carry a small baggy with you for accidents out on the trail.
• If you encounter other dogs during your walk, please don't allow contact between the animals.
• Please do not keep the dogs out longer than one hour, as they need to be seen in order to be adopted.
• Last but not least, please don't walk the dogs in areas where there are foxtails and other weeds. These can cause major problems for the dogs.

We realize that you can become emotionally attached to a particular animal, however we request that you do not ask the disposition of the animal if it is no longer at the shelter. If we cannot place animals because they are very sick, old, injured, or because not enough good, permanent homes are available, they are humanely euthanized by an intravenous injection of sodium pentobarbital. Our trained personnel always handle these animals with an extra measure of compassion. The simple fact that euthanasia remains necessary is the driving force behind the Society's hard-lined policies regarding sterilization and responsible pet ownership.
