| ** | Upon request, cats will be tested for leukemia and FIP for $15.00. |
| ** | We have a two week trial period during which the animal may be exchanged at no additional cost. However if another pet is not adopted, we will only refund $50.00 of the fee. |
| ** | If an animal is not sterilized due to age or health, an appointment for the surgery will be made at time of adoption. |
In order to find the best possible home for these companion animals everyone must go through the same adoption process. The Humane Society has established certain guidelines which were developed for the well-being of the animal and its guardian.
- Adoption counselor interviews all potential adopters.
- Individuals are given a chance to interact with the animals.
- Once an animal is selected, an adoption application must be completed and processed. All landlords will be called for verification of "Pets Allowed".
- Everyone must then wait 24 hours before picking up their new pet.
- Any adoption to persons living outside the Sedona and Verde Valley area requires that the animal is sterilized before being taken from the shelter.
- Adoption Contract is completed when the animal is picked up.
Adoption form:
You may wish to read our adoption application before coming to the shelter.
| The Humane Society of Sedona has the right to deny an adoption for any of the following reasons |
- The applicant cannot prove he/she is 18 years of age.
- The applicant refuses to spay/neuter the animal to be adopted.
- The applicant indicates the animal will be tied outdoors or kept without benefit of proper shelter, exercise and attention from its guardian.
- The animal will be used as a guard dog or mouser.
- The animal is being adopted as a gift for another person.
- The applicant has had several pets and has given them away, brought them to the shelter, or displays a penchant for losing animals.
- The applicant has a history of being an irresponsible pet owner, i.e. previous animals have been repeatedly picked-up "at large".
- The applicant has not had a permanent residence for at least 6 months. This includes students and people living in an RV Park. However, an animal may be adopted if it can be verified that the animal has been sterilized or if the applicant agrees to allow the animal to be taken by the shelter staff to a veterinarian for sterilization before the animal is taken by the adopter. The same provisions listed above apply to people living outside the Verde Valley area.
- No adoptions of puppies or kittens under the age of 4 months to families with children under 6 years of age. This also applies to small older dogs.
| Everything we do is for the best interests of the animals in our
care, and is aimed at giving them the best possible chance of finding a loving permanent home. |
